        Art Therapy is an opportunity to express feelings that become intertwined with emotions of joy and frustration as one moves through the diverse barriers of life. How many times has the lack of words prevented us from expressing our true feelings? When we are under pressure perhaps in the heat of an argument it is found our emotions run out of control and the actions that follow can be mistaken as our true feelings. As a young boy I spent many happy hours riding on the fender of my grandfathers 66 Oliver tractor. I learned how difficult identifying this antique tractor could be as words alone still were not adequate to identify the particular features that made it grandpas 66 Oliver with the wide front end. It seems we can store many details in our memories and as we visualize through photos more memories are unlocked thus provide greater details to use in the identification process. Only through pictures was I capable of identifying all the details which could narrow down the identifying process leading to the year make and model of the tractor that we shared much fellowship with each other. Time can be spent in a search for an identifying photo of the object of which identifies the multitude of emotions experienced with my grandfather. The panting of a canvas can prepare a setting for the introduction on the computer of the photo into this setting and thus provide an opportunity for visitation in a fantasy environment.

Art Works is a program run at Mount Hope Long Term Care Facility to assist in our residence's holistic health.

Mount Hope is a member of The St Joseph Health System.

Many tell us they wish they were able to draw not realizing the art releases there inner feelings.

I find it so difficult after my stroke to paint with my left hand, it used to come so quickly to me now it is a struggle.
